TWO-time Yalin Women's World 10-Ball champion Rubilen Amit, amateur golf standout Princess Superal and rising sprinter Archand Christian Bagsit will receive a bigger slice of the incentives pie from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for their successful campaigns in the 27th Myanmar Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
The PSC has set aside P7,695,000 in cash incentives to all athletes who won medals in Myanmar as well as to their respective coaches. The Philippines finished with 29 gold, 34 silver and 38 bronze medals in the Games. The checks were released on Monday.
Under Republic Act 9064, or the "National Athletes, Coaches and Trainers Benefits and Incentives Act of 2001" or "Sports Benefits and Incentives Act of 2001," each gold, silver and bronze won by an athlete in the Sea Games is worth P100,000, P50,000 and P10,000, respectively, while their coaches will get an equivalent to half of the amount.
The funds are sourced from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. through the National Sports Development Fund.
Amit will be getting P150,000 after winning the women's 10-ball singles gold when she scored a lopsided 7-2 win over Indonesian Angeline Magdalene in the finals.
Superal topped the women's individual event, beating hometown bet Yin May Myo by six strokes at the Royal Myanmar Golf Course then joined teammates Katrina Marie Briones and Clare Amelia Legaspi in bagging the team gold.
The 16-year-old Superal will be getting P133,000—P100,000 for the individual gold and P33,000 for her share in the team incentive.
Bagsit, meanwhile, will receive P125,000 for topping the men's 400-meter run and P25,000 as his share for helping the Philippine men's 4X400-meter relay team to the gold. Also on the team are Edgardo Alejan, Isidro del Prado and Julius Nierras.
Also receiving P100,000 each for winning gold are jumper Henry Dagmil, Filipino-American hurdler Eric Shawn Cray, decathlete Jesson Ramil Cid, steeplechaser Christopher Ulboc, 10-ball champion Dennis Orcollo, boxers Josie Gabuco, Mark Anthony Barriga and Mario Fernandez, and cyclists Daniel Caluag and Mark John Lexer Galedo.
The PSC will recognize all medalists on January 24 during the agency's 23rd anniversary celebration.
