Collection of data on population of Mon ethnics has been delayed and the deadline is postponed to March 2014, according to the Voice report.

The data collection is aimed at election of an ethnic Mon affairs minister to the Yangon Region government in coming 2015 elections.
The 2008 constitution afforded the appointment of an ethnic affair minister if any ethnic group constitutes 0.1 percent portion of the region or state.

If more than 5 billion people are living in Yangon, the ethnic Mon people in Yangon region are entitled to have a minister representing them in the regional government.

Ethnic Shan people are also collection the same population data to have their minister in the region government.
The data collection started since December 2013 has been delayed due to the lack of volunteers, according to organizers.
The campaign could not inform the Mon people in the region well due to inadequate funding, according to Project Director Nai Aung Soe.
