Myanmar opened SEA Games medal tally with two golds in Myanmar traditional cane ball contests in both women's and men's games on December 4.

The first gold medal of the XXVII SEA Games hosted in Myanmar was clinched by Myanmar women's cane ball team who beat Thailand by wide margin with 543 points in the first final of the games in the evening.

The Cambodia women's team won their medal tally with the bronze medal.

Myanmar men's cane ball team routed Thai counterparts again by wide margin 660-407.

Malaysia men's cane ball team emerged the bronze medal winners of the event.

Top government officials including vice-president Nyan Tun, union ministers for sports Tint Hsan, president office minister Thein Nyunt attended finals and award ceremonies.

The victories by Myanmar athletes received mixed response from local Facebook users, some heartily congratulating the matter and some criticizing it as taking advantage to open the tournament with easy golds.
