MYANMAR HOLDS FIRST PEOPLE FORUM, TO HOST ASEAN PEOPLE FORUM

Myanmar's civil societies got together at Myanmar Convention Centre in
Yangon on December 28-30 to attend Myanmar People Forum, according to
the state-owned Myanma Alinn newspaper.

The forum is aimed at hosting ASEAN People Forum as Myanmar assumed
ASEAN chairmanship in 2014.

According to the report, more than 150 civil societies around the
country attended the forum.

The objectives of the forum include sharing experiences and
information among the civil societies and responding to challenges in
cooperation and amplifying the voices of the women and the disabled
people in the community.

Myanmar will host the ASEAN People Forum and will send a delegation to
the forum.

The forum was first of its kind in Myanmar and laid the work plans for
future activities.

Top government officials including livestock and fishery minister Ohn
Myint also attended the forum.

Delegates from more than 150 civil societies participated in panel
discussions under titles: Justice and Human Rights, Development, Peace
and Democratic Reforms.
