Thailand's leading mobile service provider Advanced Info Service Plc
(AIS) has started to provide data roaming services in Myanmar,
according to the Bangkok Post report.

It has become the first international company to provide the service
to the foreigners entering the country, according to the report.

"It is essential to have a roaming service in Myanmar due to the large
number of Thais and foreign visitors through Thailand visiting the
country," said AIS's senior vice president Pratthana Leelapanang.

The AIS is providing the services through Myanmar's major telecom
service provider Myanma Posts and Telecommunications owned by the
government.

The AIS launched the voice call services in 2011 and extended text
messaging services last month, according to the report.

The company has targeted 200,000-300,000 customers in early stage of
its services.

Nearly 2 million Thais travelled to Myanmar last year, leaving high
potentials for the services.
