SINGAPORE: Singapore will host the 8th ASEAN Para Games for the first time in December 2015.
The organising committee consisting of the Singapore National Paralympic Council, the Singapore Disability Sports Council and the Singapore Sports Council is now finalising the competition dates and sports to be shortlisted.
The proposal is to have 10 to 12 sports shortlisted from the 24 sports on the ASEAN Paralympic Sports Federation list.
The event is expected to involve some 1,300 athletes from across the region.
This weekend, a 52-strong contingent will depart for Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, to compete in this year's edition, and Team Singapore will put in a performance at the closing ceremony.
Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong, and Senior Parliamentary Secretary Sam Tan will also be in Myanmar to cheer the athletes on.
Jason Chee, a Team Singapore athlete for Table Tennis, said: "This is my debut for representing Singapore for the ASEAN Para Games, and the goal for the Games this time will be to gain experience -- as much as possible."
Team Singapore's swimming athlete Theresa Goh said: "Currently, we're all raring to go, and ready to go and do our best for Singapore."
