EEPC, engineering exporters body of India, has set sight to stretch out its market to neighbouring Myanmar as challenges in western markets grow fiercer, according to NDTV report.
"Indian businessmen would not like to miss the opportunities in a country which is of strategic interest to us in terms of its location," its executive director Bharat Sarkar is quoted as saying.
A delegation of EEPC recently visited Myanmar to get ready itself to establish their presence in the Southeast Asian country which shares a long border with India.
It is also organizing an exhibition 'Indee', an engineering exporters' fair, in Myanmar next month.
Despite close ties with India, the trade volume between India and Myanmar has marginalizd to USD 2 billion, which made very few portion in India's USD 800 billion trade volume.
"While there are historical reasons, mostly political, for the low bilateral engagement, the improvement in political climate offers a sound base for us to exploit the growing economy in our neighbouring country," Sarkar told NDTV.
