International insurance giant Willis Group Holdings announced it has
opened a representative office in Myanmar, according to the company's
press release.
According to a statement by Willis, its "office in Yangon will support
Willis's multinational and Asian client base, and also provide
domestic businesses and the insurance industry in Myanmar with a point
of contact into Willis's regional and global capabilities."
The statement also highlighted the "rise in demand for risk services
and products, particularly in the infrastructure, construction,
transportation, telecoms and energy sectors."
Adam Garrard, CEO of Willis Asia, said: "We have seen a growing wave
of interest in Myanmar and this is an exciting time to be opening our
doors in Yangon."
Myanmar government has allowed the private entities in the once state
monopolized insurance industry.
"Myanmar's insurance industry is at a relatively early stage in its
development," according to the press release.
Khaing Zar Aung will lead Myanmar office as the chief representative
officer for Myanmar.
The company has strong partnership with the government-run Myanma
Insurance, according to the press release.
