Myanmar National Loses All Belongings In Tyre Shop Fire

KUANTAN, May 1 (Bernama) -- A Myanmar national lost all his belongings, including personal documents, in a fire which destroyed a tyre and vehicle service shop at Jalan Beserah near here yesterday.

Soemoethu, 23, a worker at the shop, said his thought when seeing the shop engulfed in flame was to escape.

He said the shop had closed for business for the day and he was resting upstairs when he noticed a fire downstairs and immediately rushed out through the back door to seek shelter at a petrol station nearby.

"My only regret is not taking along my personal documents with me," he told Bernama here Wednesday night.

Another employee, only known as Ah Long, 23, said he was informed about the fire by a few friends and by the time he got to the shop, the place was engulfed in flames.

Meanwhile, an employee at the petrol station, Ahmad Fakihuddin Yahya, 23, said the fire broke out about 10 pm and for safety precaution, he decided to close the station's operation about half an hour later.

Four fire-engines with 32 firemen rushed to the scene and managed to control the fire at about 10.30pm.

The Fire and Rescue Department was still investigating the cause of the fire.
