In his statement, Kobia highlighted the reform process in the past four years.
"Thanks to sustained collective efforts of the Myanmar people, progress has been made, notably in the areas of social and economic development as well as towards reaching a lasting peace agreement.
The New Year promises to be particularly important. I wish the people of Myanmar that the general elections will be remembered as an important step of the transition towards democracy and that further progress can be made on the road towards lasting peace and legal improvements in Myanmar," he said.
Kobia also confirmed the EU's commitment to further supports.
"Therefore, besides political and trade support, the EU will assist Myanmar in reaching its objectives with more than1 billion Euros of development aid in the forms of no-refundable grants, in particular in the areas of rural development, education, governance and peace-building, amongst others," he added.
