It is very strange that Muslims and Buddhists in Myanmar have been asked to build mutual trust and confidence in each other.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) appears to be playing its card cautiously. But the situation in Myanmar has come to such a pass that such defensive strategy would not work. We need to highlight the issues facing the Rohingya Muslims. Steps should be taken to resolve their nationality issue at once.
That is the bone of contention. Muslims have been living in Myanmar for centuries now. Nobody has the right to dislodge them from their ancestral land. Instead of giving lectures on co-existence, the OIC and other organizations should focus on the real issue and ensure that the Myanmar government takes concrete measures to address the issue. Paying a lip service would not be very helpful. We need some concrete action to tackle this issue. — Rashid Ahmed, Jeddah
