GOVERNMENT REQUTEST K 7 BLN BUDGET FOR PEACE PROCESS

Myanmar government has requested K 7 billion for peace talks with
ethnic armed groups as the reformist government seek to seal the
nationwide ceasefire deal with all rebel groups in the country,
according to Irrawaddy report.



Minister at the President Office U Aung Min requested the budget for
peace talks at the parliament Wednesday while he made clarification at
the budget hearing.



A day before, defence minister Lt-Gen Wai Lwin requested K 2.3 billion
for national security of the country.
The defence minister said that the defence budget was cut short to fit
the needs of the nation and is relatively low compared with the
similar budget of the other countries.
The ministry spend K 2.4 billion last year, which was 12 percent of
the whole budget.



According to the government press releases, the defence budget is
still relatively higher than those for health and education.
The president has said that the health and education sections will get
increased budget this year before the start of the new session of the
parliament.
