The United Nations peace-keeping force has invited Myanmar for contributing troops to the force.
Vijay Nambiar, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's special advisor on Myanmar, revealed the possibility of contributing Myanmar troops to the peacekeeping force of UN in meeting with Myanmar's commander-in-chief Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing.
According to the UN spokesperson, the discussion between Nambiar and Min Aung Hlaing was part of efforts for Myanmar's re-integration into the international community.
The New York-based Human Rights Watch has criticized the UN over inviting Myanmar to the peacekeeping force, pointing out the human rights records of Myanmar military, according to an AP report.
Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch is quoted as saying by AP, "Any move by the U.N. to recruit Burmese forces risks grave damage to the UN's reputation."
