It could be a long time before investigators will be able to determine a cause for Tuesday morning's major fire at the Ashley Lane Apartments in southeast Wichita.

The Wichita Eagle reports that about 70 people were displaced by the fire, 28 of whom are war refugees from Myanmar. The complex is located at 2250 S. Oliver.

Wichita Fire Investigations Captain Stuart Bevis said Wednesday that the damage estimate remains at $1.75 million. He said an insurance company may want to hire a private investigator to look into the fire. Bevis also said it would be dangerous to go through the damage right now.

It took about four hours for fire crews to put out the flames.
