Myanmar Ministry of Livestock and Fishery and Rural Development is initiating a rural development stimulus programme named Jade Green Project, according to the state media.
The project focuses on on development of agriculture and livestock breeding in rural areas, according to deputy chief engineer of Rural Development Department U Khant Zaw.
The ministry has estimated to spend K 30 million each for 1000 villages covered by the project which will disburse low-interest loans to villagers.
"As it is only about to take off the ground, our project can't still cover the whole country," the official told the state-owned newspaper the New Light of Myanmar.
The ministry has shortlisted more 1000 vilages from 45 townships around the country for the project coverage.
The government will solely fund the project which will offer stimulus packages for local farmers including small loans for farming and other business activities, but will seek international assistance in the future, according to organizers.
"We will seek funding from international organizations, get supports from local NGOs and community support groups," said an unnamed official of the ministry.
The same source noted that the programme will feature a host of public education activities.
The agency initiated the electrification and drinking water projects in more than 200 villages last year.
