MYANMAR, THAILAND MEET IN ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKING CONSULTATIONS

Myanmar and Thai anti-human trafficking authorities met in ancient
city of Myanmar Bagan Tuesday and Friday in a two-day consultation on
cracking down human trafficking, according to the local newspaper
Myanma Alinn.



It was attended by delegates from Myanmar Police Force Anti-Human
Trafficking Special Squad and Thai Justice Department.



The meeting was organized as part of an MoU signed between Myanmar and
Thailand at Greater Mekong Subregion Anti-Human Trafficking
Ministerial Meeting in 2009.



Myanmar delegation was led by Myanmar Police Force Chief of Staff
Police Brig-Gen Khin Maung Si. The 13-member Thai delegation was led
by deputy director-general of Special Branch Pol Col Yanagyuen.



UNIAP project coordinators from Thailand and Myanmar and UNIAP border
coordinator attended the meeting as well.



The meeting focused on human trafficking information sharing and the
more effective crackdowns against trafficking in persons taking place
across the border.
