Danish company, VCS Denmark is completing a feasibility study to build a high-tech pipeline system to provide clean water for Yangon residents, according to company officials.
They are working together with Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) which plans to install pipeline system for Yankin water supply station.
"With experience of Danish water service and systematic high technology, Myanmar will not have face unnecessary problems and save billions of dollars," Henrik Juul, project manager for VCS Denmark, told Eleven Media at an event on Wednesday.
He explained that the current water supply system in Yangon is over 50 years old and a lot of water is lost due to leakages and unreliable meter systems. The Danish water network will aim to prevent water loss and an accurate meter system as well.
VCS Denmark are currently seeking potential donors such as the World Bank, the Asia Development Bank (ADB), as well as the Danish government to implement the project.
U Myint Oo, the head of the Department of YCDC confirmed that the VCS Denmark will submit their feasibility study in this December. Upon analysing the final report the YCDC will continue working with VCS Denmark to begin the implementation.
VCS Denmark is the third largest water and wastewater company in Denmark. It operates 7 waterworks, 8 wastewater treatment plants and a 3400 km pipeline network for water and wastewater.
