Burma has invited tenders from international consultancy firms on a US$227 million special economic zone (SEZ) in Arakan State, AFP reported Sunday. Companies can submit bids between Sept. 23 and Nov. 19 for the right to draw up contract terms for the project in Kyauk Phyu District, with construction expected to begin in April, AFP reported. Burma's government aims to bring economic growth to the state, which was the site of mass communal violence last year. "If all local people have jobs, they will want to live under peaceful conditions," Aung Kyaw Than of the SEZ management committee told AFP.
