Myanmar activist on hunger strike in jail

Myanmar's jailed activist Naw Ohn Hla is on hunger in prison, according to local sources.
She was given a two-year sentence for protest without official permission against the controversial Letpadaungtaung Copper Mine project in Monywa City in central Myanmar.
And she has been on hunger strike since August 29 when she was sentenced for two years in prison with hard labour by Monywa Township Court.
Dr. Myo Min, government doctor from Mandalay Prison, has been closely watching her health. She was in normal health although she lost about four pounds, according to medical records taken till September 5.
During her protest on August 9 in Monywa, she demanded that the Letpadaungtaung Copper Mine project be stopped completely, 2008 Constitution be amended, to discharge Hla Htun who is the chairman for Letpadaungtaung Copper Mine Implementing Committee, and to take legal action on police officers who tortured the people.
Naw Ohn Hla was arrested on August 13 when she was on her way back to Monywa from Letpadaungtaung area in Sagaing Region.
Monywa Township Administrator Nyunt Soe put her on trial at the township court and she was given the sentence with Section 505 (b).
