Southeast Asia will have a strong contingent at the 2014 AFC U19 Championships, if the qualifying campaign is anything to go by.
Vietnam and Indonesia stormed through their difficult qualifying groups that featured, Australia and South Korea respectively, as group winners to seal an automatic berth for the 2014 Championships.
Thailand meanwhile were dealt a minor blow to their campaign having lost 2-0 to DPR Korea in their final group game to lose hold on top spot, but still made it through as one of the six best runners-up from the nine groups.
The War Elephants who were in the same group as Singapore for the qualifying campaign registered easy 3-0 and 7-0 victories ove the Young Lions and Brunei respectively, before their defeat to DPR Korea.
Vietnam meanwhile had a remarkable campaign as they brushed aside Chinese Taipei 6-1 and Hong Kong 5-1, before registering one of the biggest surprise results of the tournament by routing Australia 5-1 to seal top spot in Group F.
Indonesia had a dramatic end to their campaign as they overcame South Korea 3-2 in a tense final Group G match to emerge as group winners. They had earlier defeated Laos 4-0 and Philippines 2-0.
Malaysia meanwhile registered 3-1 and 5-1 defeats to China and Japan respectively before bouncing back to trounce Macau 5-0, but the result was academic as the Harimau Mudas were already eliminated from the competition.
