Imphal, October 12, 2013:
The 20th death anniversary of Nehlun Kipgen, the founder president of Kuki National front (KNF) was observed as 'Martyr's Day' along with paying rich floral tributes at his memorial set up at Pheijang village today.

Current President of KNF ST Thangboi, General Secretary Aaron, Home Secretary Jangboi, cadres of the outfit, village chiefs and other individuals who were present on the occasion, also saluted the departed soul.

Speaking on the occasion, ST Thangboi recalled that Nehlun Kipgen was born in 1957 at Khoripoh village in Sadar Hills.

He was the third son of Jangkhomang Kipgen and Limkholhing Kipgen.

In December 1986, Nehlun began his campaign to set up Kuki armed movement in Indo-Burma border area.

He organised the first meeting at Saihaphoh village in Burma where he pointed out that absence of self-governance and political autonomy has brought untold misery and sufferings to the Kuki people.

Fully convinced by his ideas and plans, Kuki villagers living along the border area agreed to extend support and co-operation to his Kuki armed movement for realising the vision for a separate homeland.

Later on May 18, 1988, the first raising day of KNF was celebrated at Molnoi village in Burma with the support and encouragement of Kuki chiefs and general public.

On this occasion, KNF was declared as the Kuki people's representative and was given the public mandate to carry forward the revolutionary movement.

Unfortunately, Nehlun died a martyr's death in the hands of the security forces on October 12, 1993 at Motbung and his mortal remains were laid to rest at the present memorial site at Phaijang village after giving befitting tributes by Kuki leaders and cadres of KNF, Thangboi added.
