Two youths who unsuccessfully tried to break into a Panasonic garage in Mandalay October 1 have been caught following an eight-day investigation and are now suspects in three murders at the scene, police say.
The company's driver, Aung Kyaw Hein, and his companion, Thaung Su Zin, admitted to the crimes on Wednesday and showed police what they used in the burglary attempt.
According to police records, on October 2 the driver entered the room where the safe box is kept without reason and did not take his usual route when carrying the company's money. On October 6, he took an unexplained trip to Sagaing and then went on sick leave.
According to CCTV images of the Omega Alpha Company located north of the garage, two people seen riding motorcycles at about 10 p.m. on October 1 look similar to both suspects. The pair admitted the crime when police checked footprints at the scene and concluded they came from from Thaung Su Zin's slippers.
At about 10:30 pm the same night, police say the suspects arrived at the garage together and the driver spoke with one security guard. As they were talking, Thaung Su Zin pulled the hair of the security guard and banged his head on the concrete and then with a piece of brick. He then went to another security guard who was asleep between two cars and also hit him with piece of brick. The driver gagged the guard with pieces of clothing.
During the commotion, the spouse of one security guard woke up and the driver pulled her hair and banged her head with a pole. Although they were not moving, police say the suspects made sure to kill them by using a syringe to suck acid from a car battery and inject the liquid into their hearts.
The suspects then tried to break into the safe box but did not succeed.
The suspects showed police the syringes, three bloodstained gloves, a travel bag, a spanner, a screwdriver and other items used in the burglary attempt.
"The driver admitted that he committed the crimes because he is behind on his house rent, he has to pay university expenses for his wife, and he needs capital to open a pharmaceutical shop," said Police Captain Ye Myint.
"We caught them because the clues we found at the scene showed that they are not skillful in burglary, and we suspected that the burglary was planned by someone from the company."
