United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged President Thein Sein to take severe action against those instigating violence, regardless if it's a person or a movement.

The suggestion came from the meeting that President Thein Sein held talks with Ban Ki-moon on promoting cooperation between Myanmar and the U.N at the government guest house in Brunei on October 11.

The meeting of Myanmar leader and the UNSG after ASEAN Summit lasted for over an hour when Myanmar had officially accepted the duty of alternate ASEAN chairmanship handed over from Brunei government.

When the Daily Eleven contacted President's Spokesman Ye Htut, the latter replied that the UNSG urged Myanmar to take severe actions against each individual or organization involved behind the conflicts. The UN would fully support these actions.

We must stop similar conflicts first. In the event of a conflict, we must secondly do a prompt action against them. But in Rakhine State, securities have difficult access to that remote place because of difficult transport. Thirdly, we must expose and take severe actions against those involved in the conflicts, said Ye Htut.

As to internal peace move, the government is trying a nationwide ceasefire deal to be held in the last week of November. After that a particular independent committee will be formed to initiate a political dialogue, said Ye Htut.

In the time of launching political dialogues, relocation of IDPs and rehabilitation in the conflict-hit areas, full participation of UN in these missions and invitation of international community must be carried out. These were discussed with the U.N, said Ye Htut.

Myanmar is now seeing challenges in internal conflicts, ethnic affairs and ASEAN chairmanship. Myanmar may have opportunities to escalate the speed in its reforms in view of pressure on alternate ASEAN chairmanship, said ASEAN diplomats.
