Thura Shwe Mann, Speaker of the Union Assembly, said the parliament would call on the government to clarification on the availability of the state fund and gold reserves in the next three days (November 12).
In response to the Speaker who had mentioned at the parliament on November 8, Dr Lin Aung, deputy minister of Finance and Revenues suggested that it would be more appropriate if that matter was submitted to the Central Bank of Myanmar.
Thura Shwe Mann gave instructions to the Director-General of the Union Assembly in this regard.
The move came after Dr Banyar Aung Moe from Mon State Constituency-7 who said State fund and gold reserves should be publicised.
Thura Shwe Mann told the Director-General to notify the Union Governing Body and the governor of Central Bank of Myanmar to clarify State fund and gold reserves at the upcoming sessions of the Union Assembly.
Dr Banyar Aung Moe said in his discussions on November 7 that only gold debt had to be learnt since parliamentary sessions started but didn't know of how much gold reserve is in the State's treasury. He believes the country has some pending debt.
Gold and foreign exchanges were publicised even in the period of parliamentary democracy in Myanmar and there remained transparency. Later the period of Revolution Council, foreign exchanges gradually declined. As now is a democratic era, State fund and gold reserves should be publicised.
