The eight-day, seven-night tour begins in the historic city of Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon in its days as a British colony. While in Yangon, travelers can discover the Shwedagon Pagoda, one of the most illustrious temples in Myanmar, as well as countless examples of colonial architecture, led all the way by a local Backyard Travel guide. The tour then takes travelers to Bagan where the tour investigates some of the lesser-seen sites of the area, as well as taking a cruise down the Irrawaddy River to experience life on the river and pay visit to the Kuthodaw Pagoda nicknamed the 'World's Biggest Book' due to the 729 marble stone slabs containing Buddhist scripture that can be found there. From Bagan the intriguing tour moves to Ava and then Amarapura, two former ancient capitals of Myanmar. In Amarapura travelers have the chance to visit the Mahagandayon Monastery, home to over 1,000 monks, and take a walk along U Bein Bridge, the world's longest teak bridge. The insightful tour then visits the majestic Inle Lake to observe the fascinating lifestyle of locals and their stilted houses with a boat cruise around the lake to witness the leg-rowing fishermen as they go about their daily duties. The tour then returns to Yangon where travelers can take a ride around the outskirts of the city on the famous circular train before visiting the bustling Bogyoke market full of stalls selling handmade goods. This Best of Myanmar tour is now available with a discount of 10% when taken before 30 April 2014. "Myanmar is a country going through so much change yet still retains its authentic charm and offers so much to travelers who crave genuine experiences," said Backyard Travel's General Manager Maeve Nolan. "We hope this special discount will give more people the opportunity to be touched by this remarkable country and its friendly people."
