Myanmar President Leaves On State Visit To Philippines

YANGON, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- Myanmar President U Thein Sein left for a three-day state visit to the Philippines on Wednesday, Xinhua news agency reported.

Thein Sein's visit is at the invitation of Philippine President Benigno Aquino III and is his first to the country since taking up office in March 2011.

Both leaders will meet to discuss issues of mutual concern involving trade and investment, agriculture, energy, cultural exchanges and information cooperation.

The two leaders are also expected to discuss regional issues including Myanmar's chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) in 2014.

Thein Sein and Aquino had their first bilateral meeting in Nay Pyi Taw in June when the latter attended the World Economic Forum on East Asia hosted by Myanmar.

Myanmar and the Philippines established diplomatic relations in 1956.
