Two Myanmar Women Found Dead With Stab Wounds

BUTTERWORTH, Dec 30 (Bernama) -- Two Myanmar women were found dead, believed to have been murdered, in a bush near a road in Kampung Setol here Monday.

Penang CID chief SAC Mazlan Kesah said the two bodies had several stab wounds on the body, face and neck.

He said police were alerted of the incident at 12.15pm when a man reported hearing women screaming near the location of the bodies.

"The man who was not very far from the scene had rushed to the place after hearing the women's cry. He later found bodies of two women and contacted the police," Mazlan told reporters at the scene here today.

He said the two dead women were Htay Htay Than, 21 who was found slashed on her neck while another woman known only as Than, 41 was found with several stab wounds on the body and face.

Mazlan said both victims were believed to be walking by the roadside near the bushes before being assaulted.

"Based on initial investigations, the two women lived in the village since the past two years and worked at a nearby factory. The motive was still being investigated but we have ruled out robbery as the victims' valuables were found intact," he said.

He said both the bodies have been brought to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for post-mortem.

Following the incident, police detained two Myanmar men in their 30's not far from the incident site to assist investigations, he added.

"The two men were caught based on information from a witness who saw them in the area," he said.
