Marine exports fall by US$ 76 mln

Earnings from marine exports has fallen by US$ 76 million during last ten months of the 2013-14 fiscal year, according to the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development.

The export volume of marine products is nearly 20,000 metric tonnes less than the same time last year.

Myanmar has exported 250,000 metric tonnes of marine products between last April and January, and it has earned US$ 414 million.

In the same period of 2012-13, the country exported 270,000 metric tonnes and earned US$ 490 million, Fisheries Department reported.

The Fisheries Department earlier predicted to earn US$ 700 million from marine exports in 2013-14. It has however reduced its target to US$ 500 million now. Last year, it reached US$ 650 million when the budget closed.

Businessmen have said this is due to the decline of fishery resources in the sea and decreased production that has caused a fall in marine exports this year.
