Mission Myanmar III flagged off in Imphal

 IMPHAL, March 17 – After two successful missions, a week-long Mission Myanmar Phase III of Shija, was flagged off off today to render free surgical treatment to cleft lip and palate patients and also to perform free laparoscopic surgeries at Monywa General Hospital in Myanmar.

The mission will continue till March 23. The phase III was formally flagged off by State Governor Vinod Kumar Duggal during a function at Raj Bhavan here this morning. Shija Hospital chairman and managing director Kh Palin Singh and his team also attended the ceremony, official sources here said.

The mission is a triangular effort of Indian Consulate General, Mandalay and Myanmar Government, Smile Train Shija cleft project and Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India. The mission team is expected to reach Monywa on March 19 and start the camp on March 20. About 100 cleft lip and palate patients and over 30 patients with gallstone, appendicitis, hernias and ovarian swellings are registered at Monywa General Hospital, the source added.
