Memorials for Win Tin held across Myanmar

Memorials for Win Tin held across Myanmar

Praying ceremonies and memorial services for the late veteran journalist Hanthawady Win Tin recently took place in Mawlamyaing, Taunggu and Loikaw towns.

The pro-democracy activist co-founder of the National League for Democracy (NLD) died of multi-organ failure last Monday. He was 85 years old.

In Mawlamyaing Township, Mon State, some residents and members of NLD gathered at the Kyaikthoke Pagoda and made offerings in remembrance of Win Tin on April 23.

Some people in Taunggu Township, Bago Region, also held a praying ceremony for Hanthawady Win Tin at the NLD's Education School on the same day.

A memorial ceremony for Win Tin also took place at the office of the Karenni Youth Union that day. Major Saw Lwin of Kayan New Land Party made a speech and poets and activists recited Win Tin's poems at the ceremony.
