Myanmar's traditional Water Festival launches in Yangon









YANGON- Myanmar's traditional Water Festival launched in Yangon yesterday. The opening ceremony of water festival was held at the Yangon's Mayor Pavilion on April 13, the eve of Thingyan, the first day of the festival.


On the occasion, Hla Myint, Yangon Mayor extended Thingyan New Year greetings and formally opened the pavilion.


Dancing troops and cultural troops representing the ethnics attended the opening ceremony of Yangon's Thingyan Water Festival.


Kachin and Chin ethnic cultural troops which are never participated in the Thingyan event also took part the opening ceremony.


During the festival, the vocalists will be performing the songs and dances together with the Lazy Club Music Band at the Yangon's Mayor Pandal.


Most of the water throwing pandals is located on Kabar Aye Pagoda Road and Kandawgyi Circular road.


The authorities has already allowed nearly 100 water throwing pandals including major and minor pavilions throughout the Yangon.


On that day, Yangon Regional Government Committee also launched the opening ceremony of the water throwing pavilion where Myit Swe, Chief Minister of Yangon Regional Government Committee and officials attended the ceremony.


Likewise, 11th Rakhine Traditional Thingyan Water Festival was held in Yangon on April 12 in conjunction with the Natha Grinding competition.


16 teams participated in the Natha Grinding ceremony.


"The Natha grinding competition is the eleventh times. We have to hold the competition in accordance with our Rakhine traditional culture. We are going to donate the Natha water got from the competition to the pagoda and to launch the Thingyan Water Festival," said Dr. San Hla Kyaw, Chairman for the Observance of the Rakhine Thingyan Water Festival.


The opening ceremony of Rakhine Thingyan Water Festival was held on Monday at Thuwanna Football Ground in Thingangyun Township of Yangon East District.
