Myanma Airways orders 6+6 ATR72-600s - ch

Myanma Airways (UB, Yangon) signed a firm order with Avions de Transport Régional (Toulouse Blagnac) for six ATR 72-600s with options for an additional six aircraft during the Farnborough International Airshow 2014. The new turboprops are scheduled for delivery from 2015 through to 2017 and are part of the carrier's fleet renewal plan

"In parallel with the new order, following the company's dynamic development efforts, ATR will assist Myanma Airways (soon to become Myanmar National Airways (Yangon)) to enhance its maintenance capabilities through the set-up of a modern MRO in Yangon meeting the highest international standards," the European manufacturer said.

Myanmar National Airways, the national flag carrier of Myanmar, operates scheduled services to all major domestic destinations using a fleet of ATR72s, an ATR42-300, two EMB-190s, a Fokker 28-4000, and an MA-60. The airline also has a fleet of ten B737-800 and B737 MAX 8 aircraft on order from Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare).

It is in the midst of a major restructuring plan aimed at establishing itself as a major carrier in the ASEAN region and beyond.
