Myanmar domestic airlines purchase more aircraft

YANGON, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's state-run domestic airlines, the Myanma Airways, has purchased six more ATR 72-600 aircraft for facilitating flight services, airline sources said Thursday.

Myanmar Airways and ATR Ltd., signed a memorandum of understanding MoU) on purchasing these aircraft and establishing a workshop for large aircraft, here on Wednesday.

One new French-made aircraft will arrive in Myanmar in 2015, three in 2016 and two in 2017 that were purchased through the financial assistance of EXIM banks in Italy and France.

The work for establishing workshop will be implemented within three months after signing the MoU.

Meanwhile, MA is currently operating local flights to 26 townships with 10 aircraft.

There is a total of 24 international airlines flying Myanmar with seven other airlines operating domestically.
