Myanmar's state-owned broadcaster Saturday launched a new channel
dedicated at ethnic people in the Southeast Asian country, the
official media reported.
The test transmission of National Races Channel is expected to make
its debut in mid October, according to the report.
Information minister Aung Kyi sought advices ethnic affairs minister
from regions and states of the country and cultural troupes in his
address at the launch at Myanma Radio and Television auditorium.
The channel will be aired in different ethnic races and targeted at
the ethnic people in every nook and corner of the nation.
He said the help of media organizations that represent each ethnic is
needed to make the channel reach to various ethnic people.
He also added only non-commercial community service would have the
opportunities to join up with the channel.
According to official figures, Myanmar has 135 ethnic races, a number
that scholars did not reach a consensus.
