Myanmar has reached preliminary agreement with ethnic Kachin rebels in
the northern part of the country, according to a BBC report.
The government, ambitious of the move to end gun fights with ethnic
rebels, has secured the ceasefire deal with the hard-headed Kachin
KIA/KIO.
After three-day meeting, they agreed to end armed conflicts and draw a
plan to resettle the refugees of the long-running civil war.
"We're working not just towards a just and sustainable peace but
towards a new political culture, one built on compromise, mutual
respect and understanding," Aung Min, government's lead peace
negotiator, is quoted as saying by BBC.
Myanmar government has planned to secure the peace deal with all 11
armed groups, hold an all-inclusive conference and sign a peace accord
at the parliament.
The Kachin peace negotiators were welcomed and greeted by local people
on their arrival to the meeting in Myitkyina.
