BRITISH TECH FIRM TO AID CENSUS TAKING IN MYANMAR

A British technological company will provide solutions for taking census in Myanmar for the first time in more than three decades, according to CBR report.


DRS Data Services will provide packages of IT solutions for collecting the population data of country of estimated 60 million people.


The services will feature designing, printing and analyzing of special questionnaires formulated for collecting population data in Myanmar.


"The idea is to use the census as a benchmark to help push forward the country's current transition, using data to provide social, economic and demographic characteristics of people and households for the purpose of ongoing reforms, development planning and good governance," Khin Yi, Myanmar minister for population and immigration, is quoted as saying.


Myanmar will begin collection of census data in April 2014 and the compilation and analysis will start in the first two weeks of May, according to the report.


Ann Stewart-Baker, DRS's census specialist, noted the papers are the most appropriate medium in a developing country such as Myanmar.


The census reports are due to come out within three or four months.
