DENMARK WRITES OFF MYANMAR DEBT

Denmark has written off more than 51 million debt of Myanmar as a
demonstration of support to the Southeast Asian country's democratic
transition, according to the local weekly People's Age.



Win Shein, Myanmar's finance minister, and Drnmark development
minister Rasmus Helveg Petersen signed the deal in Nay Pyi Taw on
January 10.



The Myanmar finance minister said thanks to Paris Club countries
including Denmark, who canceled Myanmar's debts and granted new loans.
He also said these are gestures of trust in Myanmar's political
developments after the administration under reformist president Thein
Sein took over.



The Denmark minister also revealed his delight for the chance to
assist Myanmar in its democratic transition.



He promised that the country would encourage the Danish investments in
Myanmar as well.



Denmark and Norway are two countries which have written off 100
percent debt of Myanmar, according to the report.
