Hackathon, the app development contest, has launched in Myanmar with more than 80 IT geeks participating in the contest Friday, according to Kamayut Media.
Eight issues raised by five NGOs in Myanmar will be handled by more than 80 technicians for developing apps for mobile and web within 48 hours, according to David Madden who leads the first Hackathon in Myanmar.
The event was mainly sponsored by Ooredoo Myanmar with co-sponsorship of World Bank and Internews.
The future of Myanmar would be better if problems in the society can be dealt with technology, former blogger-cum-activist Nay Phone Latt commented on the event.
The event was hosted by Ooredoo Myanmar office in MICT Park in Yangon.
Three awards will be presented to winners while raw solutions from participating teams are expected.
Developers are working on titles including how to provide information to farmers, how to help preserve ancient buildings in Yangon and how to help hold free and fair election.
