EU TRADER COMMISSIONER TO VISIT MYANMAR

EU trade commissioner Karel De Gucht will visit Myanmar for the first time as the EU is seeking to boost trade with Southeast Asian nations, according to the Voice report, citing the press release of EU.
The EU trade commissioner will visit Myanmar on its four-day tour to Southeast Asian countries which include Vietnam and Cambodia.


The commissioner is planning to meet some Myanmar ministers and Nobel laureate democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi on his trip to Myanmar.


The trade commissioner has scheduled to meet Myanmar's national planning and economic development minister Dr Kan Zaw to discuss an agreement on investment protection.


EU sanctions against Myanmar were lifted in 2012 following a series of political and economic reforms.
The generalized system of preferences was granted back to Myanmar in 2013.
