MYANMAR PRESIDENT CALLS FOR SYSTEMATIC MANAGEMENT OF FOREIGN AIDS

Myanmar President Thein Sein called for managing international aids, loans and grants and technical aids for developing the country in a meeting of Central Committee for Foreign Aids in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday.


He recognized development partners as "stakeholders rather than donors and tap their cooperation as development tools in policy making process," according to the government-run the New Light of Myanmar report.


The president who is also the chairman of the committee said the aids sough would meet requirements of the nation, reform strategies and priorities.


He stressed the need of trust building between his administration and the international development partners, according to the report.


The reformist president also urged the top government officials at the meeting to develop "strategies and tactics for development best suited to the local context."


He revealed that the government's priorities lie in poverty alleviation and socioeconomic development of rural population.


The government is planning a forum of international donors in Nay Pyi Taw in this January.


The First Myanmar Development Cooperation Forum was organized in January 19-20, 2013, in Nay Pyi Taw. The Nay Pyi Taw Accord was announced after the first forum a year ago.
